First blog at WordPress – consider it a new start. I created the blog below at blogspot or blogger or whatever the Google site is called these days. I have liked the look and feel of my friend Ray’s blog, Crossings, since he moved to WordPress, so decided to make the change myself. Let me know what you think. I will try and bring my past blogs over here if I can find convenient way to do it. So in the mean time, pardon my experimentation as I learn this new environment.
***********************************
I’ve been away from the blog for way too long, which is crazy because so much has happened since my last post. That post was a tribute or a grief mechanism at losing my father in 2011. Regardless, I let a lot of things get in the way of living my life the way I want to and that has to stop.
Since the last blog I have had a heart attack and quintuple by-pass surgery. I really should share the very existential experience of realizing the gravity of the situation (heart attack while hours from help) but not really letting it scare me – though it should have. The real wake-up call, if you will, was the open heart surgery. I think it was the 5-week recovery period to think about ‘things’. A key part of the ‘things’ I had to think about was Ryan; our new grandson.
He has become the center of our universe – gladly – and I want more than anything to continue to be there to teach him things a young man needs to know. Things like throwing a baseball, why girls need to talk so much, how we still need to respect them, how to put a dry fly right where it needs to be for a trout to take it – you know, important things. That little guy will be a year old next month and I haven’t written a thing about him. That is just wrong.
I also reunited with my old fishing buddy, Mike Krol, for a Montana fishing trip this September which may not have been epic in terms of trout size and number but was just like we never parted. Mike flew into Missoula from Rochester where I met and took him to our camp about 20 miles down I-90 on Rock Creek. A telling of that trip will be the subject of another post or two.
So there is a lot of subject matter to reflect upon in new blogs. I am also thinking on focusing this blog on my favorite pass time – fishing. I was going to say “fly fishing”, which is a passion of mine and what I do most. However, I am not a snob and enjoy any form of fishing that is available at any given time. Going forward I plan to write of my fishing adventures, fly tying, and life with Ryan. The latter is quite an expansive topic and I can’t wait to see where it goes. Stay tunes…
